Additional thyroid function tests.    

T3 is the most active form of thyroid hormone in the body’s system.   Most is bound to a protein, so it is important to measure the “unbound” or circulating level of both Free T3 and Free T4.  A total T4 test can be affected by various factors that change the levels of proteins that bind to thyroxine, such as pregnancy, liver disease, kidney disease, or medications. A free T4 test is more accurate and reliable in reflecting your true thyroid status.  Reverse T3 is an inactive form of thyroid hormone.   In certain circumstances, it can actually block the action of T3, which prevents T3 from getting into the cells.   This is why it is an important component of a more comprehensive thyroid work-up.

Insulin: Insulin is essential for your health and well-being, but sometimes your body may not produce enough insulin or use it properly. This can lead to diabetes, a condition where your blood glucose level is too high or too low. Diabetes can cause various complications, such as nerve damage, kidney damage, eye damage, heart disease, and stroke. People with diabetes may need to take insulin injections or use other methods to control their blood glucose levels.

Vitamin D,25OH:   Vitamin D, 25 OH is actually a hormone.  Too little affects immune function, weight, immunity, mood and more.   Levels too high, can actually cause calcium in the bloodstream, which can negatively affect your kidneys.

This test is also known as glycated hemoglobin, glycohemoglobin, or A1C. HbA1c is a blood test that measures the percentage of hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells) that has glucose (sugar) attached to it.  It can help diagnose diabetes or prediabetes by showing the average blood sugar level over the past two to three months.  It can help monitor how well diabetes is controlled and how effective a given treatment plan is.

A CMP14 (comprehensive metabolic panel) measures 14 different substances in your blood, such as glucose, electrolytes, proteins, and enzymes. This test can help evaluate your liver and kidney function, blood sugar level, and nutrient balance.

A Lipid Panel measures the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood. These are types of fats that can affect your heart health. This test can help assess your risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack and stroke.

A TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) measures the amount of TSH in your blood. TSH is a hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones. These hormones regulate many body functions, such as metabolism, growth, and temperature. This test can help diagnose thyroid disorders, such as hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) and hyperthyroidism (high thyroid function).   Although, TSH is not the only measurement for thyroid function, nor the most complete, it can give you a very basic look into your baseline numbers.  A more accurate look at thyroid can be found in our Comprehensive Wellness Panel.
